Carolina Segura holds an Architecture degree from the Universidad Católica de Córdoba (Córdoba, Argentina) and a certificate in Landscape Design and Environment from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). In 2002, Carolina joined Design Workshop, an award-winning landscape architecture and urban planning firm. While at Design Workshop, she worked on an extensive variety of project types and scales; one of her major accomplishments was working on the design, construction document production, and construction administration of one of the largest high-end residential ranch projects in the Aspen area.  

Carolina’s involvement on a large scale low-income housing project in Mexico motivated her to return to school in 2008 to pursue a Master of Community Planning at the University of Cincinnati. In graduate school, she broadened her knowledge of urban forms, quality of life issues, walkable communities, and sustainable practices. After graduation in 2010, Carolina stayed in the Cincinnati area to work as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Cincinnati’s School of Planning. 

In 2011, Carolina joined the Landscape Architecture Department at the University of Kentucky to teach design studios and graphic communication from analog to digital media. Carolina’s professional practice experience and strong background in graphic communication has inspired her students in the senior level urban design studio to develop ideas and communicate design solutions to real world project scenarios.  

Carolina has organized and led UK Study Abroad trips to Argentina (2012 and 2013) and to Spain and France (2015), where sketching on-site was an integral learning component for students. Carolina has also provided consulting services within and outside the University including site design and master planning for the Horticultural Research Center, bike and pedestrian infrastructure improvement ideas utilizing SPIN bike data, charrette facilitation, and design communication services for the Greater Gardenside community.  

Carolina has been instrumental in the success of UK Design Week, a multidisciplinary week-long vertical charrette introduced to the program in 2012 by Design Workshop. Since then, this annual event has provided numerous opportunities to link academia and practice, and provide valuable design ideas to the community and clients while serving as a learning exercise for students. The work produced during UK Design Week and Beyond Design Week has led to the program receiving ASLA KY Chapter Student Honor Awards in 2015, 2016, and 2018.
