Horst Schach

In 1969, Horst Schach joined the Horticulture Department and began teaching courses in landscape architecture. He, along with other faculty members, worked to develop the Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture program. The program was accredited by LAAB in 1978. The Department of Landscape Architecture was formed in 2001 and Horst became the first chairperson of the department. Horst was well-traveled and taught the program’s history courses using slides he took during his international travels. He was intensely interested in the Bluegrass Region’s landscape and was an influential designer of horse farms in the region.
