    27 Students in Ryan Hargrove's and Ned Crankshaw's UKLA design studios recently visited Indianapolis to study the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and other urban design projects. The class visited with faculty and students in Ball State University's graduate program in Urban Design, Eric Ernstberger of Rundell-Ernstberger Associates, Karen Haley of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, and Pete Fritz, Healthy Communities Planner at the Indiana State Department of Health.

    The UKLA undergraduate landscape architecture program received continuing professional accreditation from the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board through 2020. The entire reaccreditation process takes approximately nine months of preparation and review. A visiting team of academics and practice professionals reviewed all aspects of the program using the department's self evaluation, student work, and interviews with university and college leadership, faculty and staff, current students, graduates, and employers.

    On Friday, February 27th, 2015, students will present portfolios to a distinguished group of professional landscape architects for review and feedback . This event goes back more than a decade and is an important part of our connection with the practicing community beyond the university. This research program teams faculty, student research assistants, and private or public practice Landscape Architects in the investigation of performance measures of completed projects.

    Travis Klondike and Qianhui Miao recently received awards in the University of Kentucky Oswald Research and Creativity Award Program. 

    Travis Klondike received first place in the Fine Arts category for his video production entitled West of Ninth. The video can be viewed at this link. 

    Qianhui Miao received Honorable Mention for a site design project called "Let it Grow."

    Two projects led by UKLA faculty recently received funding in the UK Sustainability Challenge Grant Program. Jayoung Koo is co-leader of the Empowerment for North Limestone Neighborhood Sustainability. Chris Sass and adjunct faculty member Molly Davis are co-leaders of the Arboretum Drive BioSwale Demonstration Project. You can read more about the projects here

    Professor Thomas Nieman was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Boards. The Council is an organization of all of the state and provincial boards that govern licensure of Landscape Architects. Dr. Nieman has long been involved as member and chair of the licensure board in Kentucky and teaches Landscape Architecture Registration Exam review sessions around the United States.
