Thomas Nieman

Tom Nieman began his career as a faculty member in the Department of Landscape Architecture in 1976 and retired in 2016. He developed the program’s Working Drawings course which serves as a design studio and a capstone to the implementation course sequence. Tom was involved in accreditation and landscape architecture licensure throughout his career and continues to provide Landscape Architecture Registration Exam preparatory courses across the United States. Tom led students on many travel programs in Asia, Europe, and South America and was a proponent of the benefits of international study. Tom and his wife Jan established the Tom and Jan Nieman Education Abroad Fund to reduce the expenses for all students participating in the Department of Landscape Architecture’s faculty-led international travel/study programs.

In retirement, Tom continues work at his well-known Christmas Tree farm, along with horse farm design and construction consulting.
