Professional Profile

Carolina Segura arrived as a Lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture in 2011 to teach studio and digital graphics. She now focuses in all areas of graphic communication from analog to digital media and its application in studios as well as international travel. Carolina has organized and led three trips in 2012 and 2013 to Argentina and in 2015 to Spain and France where sketching on-site was incorporated as a major learning component of the course. Her interest in graphic communication is also a major focus in her studios, enhancing basic hand graphics and digital skills in LA Design Studio III and exploring advance graphics methods in LA Design Studio V.

Along with teaching lecture/labs and studios, Carolina has been instrumental in the success of Design Week, a week long vertical charrette introduced to the program in 2012 by Design Workshop. Since then, this yearly event has provided numerous opportunities to learn from other professionals, work with faculty and students from other departments, and explore different design challenges. The work of UK Design Week and Beyond Design Week in 2015 and 2016, both led to a 2015 ASLA KY Student Honor Award and 2016 ASLA KY Student Honor Award.

Prior to starting at University of Kentucky, Carolina obtained a full scholarship at University of Cincinnati, Ohio, to pursue a Master of Community Planning. After graduation in 2010, Carolina stayed in the Cincinnati area to work as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Cincinnati.

Before her teaching experience, Carolina worked at Design Workshop, an award-winning landscape architecture and urban planning firm, between the years 2002 and 2008. While at Design Workshop, she worked in an extensive variety of projects types and scales. One of the major accomplishments came while working in the design, construction document production and construction administration of one of the largest high-end residential ranch projects in the Aspen area.

Carolina arrived at Design Workshop in 2002 after having finalized her certificate in Landscape Design and Environment in the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Previous to this she graduated as an Architect in the Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Córdoba, Argentina, where she acquired knowledge in architecture, landscape architecture and planning.
